Detox Your Liver With This Liver Flush Drink

The liver performs so many functions in our bodies and keeping it healthy is absolutely imperative to our overall health. This is a recipe I learned in Thailand for gently cleansing the liver. It is said to help flush out toxins and therefore aid in maintaining the integrity of this oft overtaxed organ.

At first glance, this does not sound particularly tasty, but I was surprised to find that I quite enjoy the flavor. I hope you will as well!

Liver Flush Drink
from Spa Samui

One of the many liver flush drinks I consumed on the beach on an island in Thailand.

Ingredients:
2 tbsp to 1/3 cup of extra virgin olive oil (I prefer to stay toward the lower end)
1/3 cup fresh orange juice (must be freshly squeezed/juiced and not processed OJs in which the nutrients have been killed)
juice from 1 to 2 lemons
3 to 5 cloves garlic
1 knob ginger
1/2 tsp to 1 tsp cayenne pepper, depending on taste

Directions:
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

    • Hi Imma!

Taking milk thistle or turmeric is great for detoxifying the liver. This drink is also great for detoxifying the liver, and you could drink it twice a day for a period of time while taking milk thistle or turmeric (they are completely natural, but check with a doctor to make sure they don’t interfere with any medications you may be taking or anything of the sort) is very effective. Eating a clean diet with lots of greens, plenty of raw foods, plenty of water with lemon, using natural products without a plethora of chemicals, etc. will decrease the toxic burden on the liver and will give it time to detoxify itself. If you want to try something more intense and that works more quickly, you can do a liver and gallbladder flush (just like the one you read about in that book). They’re so easy to do and many people report incredible benefits from having done them.

  5. What are the instructions for doing this cleanse/flush? I would like to do it this weekend, but am not sure as to how I should go about doing it.

    • Hi Dian! This is not a full-blown liver detox, just a drink that naturally helps the liver to detoxify. Also, taking milk thistle or turmeric is great for detoxifying the liver. Eating a clean diet with lots of greens, plenty of raw foods, plenty of water with lemon, using natural products without a plethora of chemicals, etc. will decrease the toxic burden on the liver and will give it time to detoxify itself. If you want to try something more intense, you can look into a liver and gallbladder flush. There are some books on the topic. That is a much more intensive way to go, though. Hope this helps!

  6. Silybum marianum (milk thistle) is an annual or biannual plant of the Asteraceae family. This fairly typical thistle has red to purple flowers and shiny pale green leaves with white veins. Originally a native of Southern Europe through to Asia, it is now found throughout the world. The medicinal parts of the plant are the ripe seeds.”`,-
